Description

The legend of St. Colombe: According to legend, Colombe was a saint who lived in a cave on the rock to which she gave her name. She healed the inhabitants with plants and flowers. She commanded animals. One day, when an eagle had snatched a baby sleeping under a tree (women working in the fields), Colombe had fetched the child from the hawk's nest and returned it unharmed to her family. She communicated with her brother Maurice, also a hermit in the mountains above Dieulefit, by lighting a large fire every evening. On the night of her death, as the snow isolated the cave, all the animals of the forest came to watch over Colombe.
