Lavender, blue gold in Drôme Provençale

Lavender: a treat for the eyes, taste and smell.

The best time of the year in Drôme Provençale is when the lavender fields are at their brightest. Lavender fields are blooming between June 15 and July 15. It is said that lavender is more beautiful in the morning or in the late afternoon. What could be better than wandering around a lavender field, with the cicadas singing in the background, during a sunny day, under the sky of Provence? It feels like summer.

In the morning, the dew begins to form on the sprigs of lavender and enhance the mauve and bluish colors. In the evening, once the sun has warmed the ground, the scent of the flowers is mixing with the heated soil. Nothing feels better than this!

When the valley changes of color and the fields are starting to turn purple, it only means one thing: summertime is in the air!

The beauty and romance of lavender: symbol of love and sharing

Lavender is known to be a lucky charm. The word lavender – from the Latin lavare meaning wash – goes back to the Middle Age but, is used since Antiquity by the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Romans to perfume the baths. Considered as elixir of love, the Romans used to put lavender oil on their bodies to seduce. Since then, lavender is associated to romantic relationships.
